-Rejoneadores.

-Recortadores.

-Encierro de San Fermín.

-Vaquillas

¨Bullfighting is a controversial cultural activity. Some see it as a time honored sport to be revered, where others consider it animal cruelty and want it banned. No matter where you stand there is room for you in this discussion and debate.¨

Video (en inglés, 15´21¨): The bravest coward | Sakdiyah Ma’ruf | TEDxUbud

Figurative Translation & Dictionary Building

Translated works often lack the cultural connotation and emotional impact from the original. For this reason, literal translation -translating word by word- can be awkward. Figurative translation on the other hand, focuses on delivering the nuances of the original text. Which is better? The first part of this workshop will involve participants to listen to foreign music and try their best guess in delivering the context and mood of the song. So, if finding words to express our thoughts in another language is difficult, are there any ’words’ that are non-existent in any language that we know of? They say that language frames our mind- restricting it as much as it liberates it. Can we break the frames of words and create our own? The second part of the workshop will have students create their very own dictionary (with a nice cover!).
