Aquí se separan nuestros caminos...
El miércoles en la revista editada por los estudiantes de high school publicaron la lista de profesores que dejaremos Shanghai American School (SAS) el año que viene. En mi caso mi próximo destino será Indonesia. He pasado 5 años fantásticos en Shanghái, me encanta China y trabajar en esta escuela es un privilegio. ¿Por qué me voy entonces? Simplemente por la inquietud de conocer nuevos sitios.

Este año somos 17 los profesores que dejamos la escuela secundaria y creo que la mayoría comparte mis razones: SAS es un lugar maravilloso para trabajar, pero después de un tiempo el virus de viajar a otro lugar o combatir la rutina nos termina afectando.
De los 17 colegas:
- 1 no sabe todavía lo que hará el año que viene.
- 4 se quedarán en Shanghái, trabajando en otro lugar.
- 5 se vuelven a su país de origen (a trabajar, a viajar o a retirarse).
- 7 seguiremos de feriantes enseñando en otras escuelas internacionales del mundo.
DEPARTAMENTO DE INGLÉS:
- Sam (EEUU) se vuelve a Hawaii con su mujer.
- Chris (EEUU) abandona la escuela para ser el director de secundaria de otra escuela en Shanghái.
- Patricia (EEUU) se va al otro campus de SAS en Shanghái (Pudong)
- Heather (EEUU) se va a Ghana.
DEPARTAMENTO DE HUMANIDADES:
- Karen (EEUU) vuelve a Nueva York.
- Gary (EEUU) vuelve a Nueva York para viajar con su familia un año en Estados Unidos.
- Larry (EEUU) se va con su mujer Patricia al otro campus de SAS en Shanghái (Pudong)
DEPARTAMENTO DE CHINO Y LENGUAS EXTRANJERAS:
- Celia (China) se va a Corea.
- Julia (EEUU) se va a Emiratos Árabes, casualmente a mi escuela anterior Dubai American Academy.
- Castrol (España) – me voy a Indonesia.
DEPARTAMENTO DE ARTE
- Mary (Canadá) se va a Corea.
- Debbi (EEUU) se retira en Carolina del Norte.
DEPARTAMENTO DE EDUCACIÓN FÍSICA
- Corry (Canadá) se va a Tailandia.
DEPARTAMENTO DE MATEMÁTICAS
- Robert (EEUU) se vuelve a Colorado. Tengo a su hija en clase, y es una decisión más basada en los intereses de sus hijos que de Robert y su mujer. Volverá pronto al circuito internacional :-)
- Mychilo (EEUU) no tiene planes todavía.
RESPONSABLE DE TECNOLOGÍA
- Pat (EEUU) se va a Hong Kong.
RESPONSABLE DE ¨STUDY HALL¨
- Alice (EEUU) va a otra escuela en Shanghái para enseñar inglés.
No lo han nombrado en el artículo pero hay alguien más. Nuestro subdirector de high school Michael se va como director a la Escuela Americana de Varsovia.

Many teachers to leave SAS Puxi high school

After last year´s very small number of teachers leaving the SAS Puxi high school –one English teacher, plus then-high school principal Mr. Ed- this year will see a bigger than normal exodus of high school staff.
The English department will see the biggest loss. Ms. Lucy left in December, and Ms. Christine will leave teaching to become the Puxi high school vice principal next year. Additionally, Mr. Sam will leave for Hawaii after five years at SAS; Mr. Chris will become Concordia´s high school principal after two years at SAS; Ms. Patricia will depart for SAS Pudong after just one year in Puxi; and Ms. Heather, who replaced Ms. Lucy in January, is departing for Ghana.
The social studies department has three people leaving: Ms. Karen will go to New York after 11 years at SAS, Mr. Gary is leaving SAS after five years to spend a year traveling around the US with his family, and Mr. Larry will also go to SAS Pudong after just a single year at SAS Puxi.
The Chinese and global language departments will lose three people in total: five-year SAS veteran Mr. Castro is going to Indonesia; Ms. Celia, who has also been at SAS for six years, is going to Korea; and Ms. Julia is going to Dubai after four years at SAS.
The fine arts department will lose two staff members: Ms. Mary is going to Korea after ten years at SAS (five in Puxi high school) and Ms. Debbie is retiring to North Carolina after nine years at SAS.
The PHE deparment is losing just a single member –Mr. Corry, who is going to Bangkok after four years at SAS.
The math department will see the loss of two teachers: Mr. Robert and Mr. Mychilo, who have both been at SAS for two years. Mr. Robert is going to Colorado, while Mr. Mychilo has no definite plans yet.
While the science department will not lose any of its members, there are two staff members departing who are not in a department. Tech resource facilitator Mr. Patrick is going to Hong Kong after five years at SAS, and underclassman study hall supervisor Ms. Alice, who became associated with SAS when her children went to SAS Pudong for three years, is going to teach middle school English at the Western International School of Shanghai after two years in her present position.
