Malcha Mahal to be restored + The Ridge (New Delhi, India)

Dear colleagues,

 

Many of you are familiar with Malcha Mahal, a hunting lodge in ruins at The Ridge, very close to AES. Google Maps.

 

In 2019 The New York Times published this article.

Yesterday, The Hindustan Times published another article, saying that if all goes well, in 5-6 months a restoration project may begin, to make Malcha Mahal a tourist attraction.

 

As it is now, it is a hidden gem very close to school, you hardly meet anybody there (well, since January, maybe because of this project coming up, there is a security guy there).

If you haven´t been there yet, check it out before there is a newly restored Malcha Mahal. From the top there are fantastic views of The Ridge, Rashtrapati Bhavan and the Parliament.

Also, The Ridge is a fantastic park to run or walk. It is totally wild, it feels like being in the forest. Here are some tracks that you could follow.

6 de septiembre de 2023: Nueva Delhi tiene auténticas maravillas para visitar, es una ciudad con un gran patrimonio histórico. De entre todos los lugares mi favorito es Malcha Mahal, un edificio del siglo XIV que permanece abandonado. Está muy cerquita de casa y totalmente fuera de la ruta turística, es bastante raro encontrarte con gente allí. Nueva Delhi no tiene edificios altos y para mí la terraza de esta antigua residencia tiene las mejores vistas de la ciudad. El año pasado, en abril de 2022, leí una noticia que decía que iban a restaurar el lugar. Ayer cuando lo visité vi que lo que antes era un estrecho sendero para acceder se ha convertido en un ancho camino. Han puesto un cartel que señala el cruce y han limpiado todo el perímetro, antes cubierto de árboles y maleza. Vamos a ver cómo va evolucionando el tema…
